Driving safe means changing some of your driving habits during the winter months. The first thing you will want to do is reduce your speed. This advice is good when driving on wet or slick roads. When the driving surface is ice-covered, you will not have the same control of the vehicle as when the roads are dry. You will want to make sure that the tires have the correct amount of air pressure in them. If the tires have less air than they should, you will notice some issues.

Increase the amount of space between you and the vehicle in front of you on the road. Typically this should be three car lengths, but with poor weather, make sure to double or triple the amount. That will allow you enough space in case the vehicle in front of you has to slam on the brakes. It can allow you to slow down, stop or change lanes if you have to. Tailgating and following too close will increase your chance for an accident.  Also, be aware of those driving around you, so you know where the other traffic is.

You can also stay safe while on the road by making sure your vehicle is brought in for regular maintenance inspections. Doing this will allow us to do a bumper to bumper inspection on your vehicle. If there are any issues, we can have them fixed quickly. Also, be aware of any time a dashboard warning light illuminates. If they turn on and start blinking, make sure to pull over immediately. You will want to turn off the engine for your vehicle. Contact us for an appointment so we can inspect what the source of the issue might be.
